FEMALE CRICKET

In 2016 Ballarat entered into the world of junior female cricket and has never looked back. Our programs have been steadily growing and adapting to the needs and desires of the participants and will continue to do so thanks to the wonderful work of those volunteers that make it all happen.

Season 2020/2021 will see further changes to the programs offered to cater for current participants and encouraging new ones to come into the game. With so many winter sports cancelled or severely impacted, now is the perfect time give cricket a go as we have all bases covered.

The Ballarat Cricket Association endorses Cricket Australia's Junior Formats, as outlined below: -

We have a growing number of BCA Clubs currently involved in our junior female programs with most involved in, or looking to be, the above displayed programs on offer.

Season 2020/2021 will see no dedicated female only Junior Blaster & Master Blaster programs. As the research shows, girls and boys develop physically at similar levels up until the age of 11-12, and our experience backs that up with many young girls involved in the 'boys' competitions holding their own and developing their games at the same rates through the U9, U11 & U13 open competitions.

Season 2020/2021 will see a Friday afternoon female U14 (Junior Cricket 2) replacing the former 'Stage 2' competition, and a Tuesday afternoon female U17 (Junior Cricket 3) competition introduced to extend the participants of the former Stage 2 competition and bridging the gap between junior and senior cricket.

Clubs will be strongly encouraged to continue promoting female participation in our U10 and U11 (Junior Cricket 1) competitions whether it be through integration of boys and girls or girls only teams. The Friday afternoon Stage 1 competition previously held at the Eastern Oval will no longer be available.

Representative cricket for players in the U14 and U17 age groups will be available this season with an exciting prospect of playing in the 'Western Girls Cup' in Hamilton January 18, 19 & 20. The BCA will be entering at minimum an U17 team in the 3 day tournament with the option to add an U13 team if numbers allow. Further information will be available closer to the date and we're hoping that this will be in addition to our girls being included in 'Junior Country Week' from Jan 4-8.

While not directly attributed to or affiliated with the BCA, the Ballarat Women's Cricket Club offers open age female cricket at both social/competitive and competitive levels. They intend to be a part of the Cricket Victoria Women's Community Cricket Competition (North West) and the Barwon Women's Cricket Competition at minimum and have the scope to add further teams if numbers allow.
